The European Fertilizer Manufacturers Association has published a press release stating that on February 11th, a broad representation of European industry met in Antwerp (Belgium) to convey to political representatives that Europe cannot be resilient, secure, or competitive without a strong industry.
Representatives of European industry, including Fertilizers Europe, have prepared the document “Antwerp Call to Action,” which calls on the EU to take urgent political measures to restore competitiveness and attract investment. The main demands are:
- Reduce energy and carbon costs, which are too high in Europe.
- Ensuring fair international trade and better access to finance, protecting European industry from unfair competition and preventing carbon leakage.
- Promote the purchase of products manufactured in Europe, supporting sustainable products and strengthening industrial employment.
The message is this: it is no longer a time for diagnoses, but for immediate action to secure the future of European industry, because investment is shifting to third countries, local industry is under pressure, and business confidence is declining.
